    the story

The Ecofan Stove Fan is a simple tool to help heat your living space. This self powered stove fan uses only the heat from the stove to generate its own electricity and is the most economical way to effectively circulate warm air directly into the living area. It's lightweight, quiet and portable.

    performance

What is the recommended surface temperature of the stove?
The optimal running temperature of the Ecofan Original and Ecofan Airplus for woodstoves is the same as the recommended safe operating temperatures of wood stoves between 450°F to 600°F (205°C to 345°C). Relocate your Ecofan to a cooler spot if your stovetop exceeds 650°F (345°C). The Ecofan GS’s optimal running temperature is between 150°F to 300°F (65°C to 150°C) Operating above the recommended temperature may be hazardous due to excessive blade speed. In order to prevent this, Caframo has fabricated an over speed protector that will activate and slow the speed of the blade down. The Ecofan GS should then be relocated to a cooler position where the over speed protector will be reset and protection will be in place.

Why isn’t there a grill covering the blade for safety?
Grills substantially reduce a fan’s efficiency. The manufacturer solved this problem by design a unique safety blade which reduces risk of cutting your hand. However, we recommend taking precautions to not touch the Ecofan at all while it is in operation.

What are the heat sensitive springs for?
When the stove is very hot, the heat sensitive springs lift the fan slightly off the surface of the stove to cool the bottom of the fan.

Can I use the Ecofan on a fireplace?
Unfortunately no, the Ecofan generates its own electricity through temperature differential. The base must make contact with a heat source of at least 150ºF and the top of the fan must remain cooler. The Ecofan needs to draw cooler air from behind in order to operate.

ow should I store my Ecofan during the off-season?
Once the Ecofan is placed properly on your woodstove there is no need to move it. We recommend leaving it in its position on top of the stove year round. If you want to remove it for any reason, please take care to store it in a location where it cannot be knocked over or dropped.

How is the Ecofan GS different than the Ecofan Airplus?
The Ecofan 802 is designed for wood stoves. The Ecofan 806 GS is designed specifically to provide high performance for gas stoves. Gas stoves operate at lower temperatures than wood stoves.

If the Ecofan GS is placed on a surface hotter than 300°F (150°C), the built-in overheat protector will activate. This will cause the unit to slow down. If this happens, simply move the Ecofan GS to a cooler spot on the stove top and the overheat protector will reset automatically.

    how should i use it?

What temperature does the surface need to reach in order to operate?
The Ecofan will start to rotate once the base of the fan has reached a temperature of 150ºF (65°C).

How do I know if my stove is too hot?
We recommend the use of a stove top thermometer to ensure good stove safety. For wood stove Ecofans, Ecofan Original and Ecofan Airplus; the heat sensitive spring on the base of the fan will gently tilt the fan as your stove's temperature increases to help protect it from overheating. Relocate your Ecofan to a cooler spot on your stove if the surface temperature exceeds 650°F (345°C). The Ecofan GS is specifically designed for use on gas stoves or stoves with a surface temperature between 150°F (65°C) and 300°F (150°C). If the Ecofan GS is placed on a surface hotter than 300°F (150°C), the built-in overheat protector will activate. This will cause the unit to slow down. If this happens, simply move the Ecofan GS to a cooler spot on the stove top and the overheat protector will reset automatically.

My Ecofan worked great and now it is slowing down. What should I do?
Check your fan for proper placement. Check the normal operating temperature of your stove with a stovetop thermometer.

Why do you want the fan placed at the back of the stove?
It is important for cool air to be available behind the stove. If you place the Ecofan on the front of a stove, the air behind the stove will be hot and it will not operate as efficiently.

Why should the fan be placed as far away from the stove pipe as possible?
The air at the top of the fan should be cooler than the air at the bottom of the fan. If the fan is too close to the stove pipe, the heat from the stove pipe will reduce the efficiency of the fan.

Can I use the Ecofan on a fireplace insert?
Yes, but placement is key. Again the fan needs to draw cooler air from behind to operate and the surface on which the Ecofan Original and Ecofan Airplus is placed should never exceed 650°F (345°C). The surface on which the Ecofan GS is placed should never exceed 300°F (150°C).

how do i install or apply it?

Place the fan directly on the stove top at the rear of the stove while making sure to avoid a close proximity to the stove pipe.
