    the story

Solatubes are an eco-friendly, low-cost way to light interior spaces. The tube harnesses the suns rays from the rooftop and redirects them down a highly reflective shaft into the home.

Solatubes innovative technology makes it possible to capture a maximum amount of sunlight. The Light Intercepting Transfer Device (LITD®) increases the surface area available to intercept direction sunlight no in the direct path of the tube opening, then transfers the light down the tubing. The result is increased light input and increased light output. The Spectralight(R_ Infinity proprietary super-reflective tubing has the highest reflectivity in the world for the brightest purest light. It provides near-perfect color rendition. The Raybender® Technology intercepts light that is not in the direct path of the tube and redirects it down the tube at a steeper angle, minimizing reflection loses.

    performance

Technology makes a tremendous difference in the lighting performance. The Solatube Daylighting System is the only product line with Spectralight® Infinity, a revolutionary reflective tubing material that can transfer up to 500 percent more daylight than any other material currently used in the industry. With Solatube Daylighting Systems, all you see is the brightest, cleanest and whitest natural light possible.

The Solatube Daylighting System can be “accessorized” with a Light Add-On Kit for night, a Ventilation Add-On Kit for damp locations, and an exclusive Daylight Dimmer to control the level of daylight at the flip of the switch.

30% Federal Tax Credit Eligible for DSE models
Solatube eChoice products exceed the performance standards established in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that require skylight products to meet a maximum U-Factor rating of 0.30 and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30.

    at home

It has been shown in several prominent studies that increasing daily exposure to natural light can enhance mental and physical well-being, boost concentration and energy levels and a variety of other unexpected perks.

    on the planet

A Solatube allows you to switch off electric lights during the day, which provides savings on energy bills and also reduces environmental pollution. Solatube is Energy Star rated and qualifies for many LEED points. During 2009, homeowners can qualify for a $200 tax credit by installing a Solatube.

    where can i use it?

A Solatube is a great solution for areas that don't receive sufficient natural light. You can use a Solatube to light a lower level if there is a closet, existing chase, or place for the tubes to run through the house from the roof to the first floor.

A Solatube 290 DS is recommended due to the long distance from the roof. Usually a chase is built around the unit for added protection.

Roof access is necessary for installation.

    how much do i need?

The Solatube Daylighting system that is right for you depends on both the room size and layout and how much light you prefer. Here are some guidelines for residential areas:

    Solatube 160: 150 - 200 square feet (19 sq meters)and up to 20' of tubing.

    Solatube 290: 250 - 300 square feet (28 sq meters)and up to 30' of tubing.

These estimated lighting areas are based upon an average 6' (1.82m) tube length and 8' (2.4m) ceiling height, with the dome being in direct sunlight.

Light output will vary depending on the intensity of the sun. Light output may also decrease as the length of tube increases.

how do i install or apply it?

Both the Solatube 160 DS and 290 DS fit easily between roof rafters, so they don’t require structural changes. We offer adjustable tubing designs that allow installation around attic obstructions, such as Spectralight® Infinity angle adaptors, Spectralight® Infinity extension tubing in 16" (400mm) and 24" (600mm) segments and our revolutionary 0-90 Degree Extension Tube. All are designed to fit together for easy installation.
