    the story

Antrim’s Bunty Line of non-dyed top quality wool carpet provides the opportunity to experience the fresh chemical free feel of an all natural product, with sophisticated designs.

These natural, handmade carpets and rugs are manufactured with top quality materials and techniques. Antrim products are hand loomed using 100% wool, natural latex and ‘action backing’. The process begins with the selection of yarns using the longest wool fibers available; using the natural colors of the wool to achieve a range of patterns and styles.

The colors and patterns in the carpets are a result of careful hand blending of different colored wool fibers – no dye necessary!

    performance

Wool is a very strong fiber. Because it is so durable, carpets made from wool can outlast their synthetic counterparts by decades

Wool fibers are naturally elastic and resilient. When crushed or stretched, they easily return to their original shape. For this reason, wool does especially well in high traffic areas.

Wool carpets are naturally stain resistant. Their stain-resistance comes from the natural moisture repelling qualities of the fiber. Because wool repels liquids, spills usually blot up and dry out. Because of this, stains do not soak in and get absorbed and their residue is easily vacuumed away. Wool fibers are also naturally self-extinguishing, making them resistant to flame. Synthetic carpets, in contrast, are often treated with toxic chemicals in order to achieve this level of stain and fire resistance. Our wool carpets are free of chemical treatments.

    at home

Wool carpet is the healthy choice for your indoor air quality.

By nature, wool is naturally stain-resistant and fire-resistant, so there is no need for the toxic chemical treatments that can off-gas from synthetic carpet and pollute the air in your house.

Wool is a non-allergenic fiber and does not promote the growth of bacteria and dust mites. The fibers actually have microscopic scales that capture and hold dust and dirt particles near the surface of the carpet until they are vacuumed. Thus, there is less dust in the air, and fewer contaminants snared deep in the carpet – a real plus for people who suffer from allergies.

There have been additional studies that suggest that wool fibers can actually absorb and neutralize polluting gases such as formaldehyde, sulphur dioxide and nitrous oxides.

    on the planet

Fine quality, all natural wool offers numerous advantages when used in flooring. It has been used for centuries and represents all the qualities that synthetic fibers try to emulate. Here are some things to consider about natural wood carpeting:

    • Wool fiber is naturally and rapidly renewable fiber grown on Sheep. The annual harvesting of the wool from the sheep does not cause harm and is even necessary for the health of the animal.
    • Wool is a biodegradable fiber, so it will decompose naturally when exposed to the elements. Some wool carpets are even compostable, taking up no landfill space.
    • Wool fibers are incredibly strong and resilient. Wool carpets tend to outlast their synthetic counterparts by decades.
    • Wool carpets do not require stain resisting or flame retarding chemicals. This adds up to less toxins in the environment.

    how do i maintain it?

With proper, simple maintenance your wool carpet can serve you for decades.

Regular vacuuming is the key. Allowing dirt to get ground down into your carpet will significantly shorten its life-span, so you will want to vacuum at least once a week. Unlike synthetic fibers, wool fibers have microscopic scales on them that capture and hold dust particles near the surface of the carpet until they are vacuumed – so vacuuming your wool carpet really makes a difference – removing dirt efficiently and effectively.

When vacuuming your wool carpet, be sure to use a machine that does not have a “beater bar” as those will, quite literally, beat up your carpet.

Wool carpets are naturally stain resistant. Wool will repel most liquids and most spills are simple to clean. Ask about our helpful, non-toxic wool cleaning information and supply kit. Wool carpets also respond well to professional cleaning by experienced wool cleaners.

Do not use water-based cleaners designed for synthetic carpets. The moisture can shrink the fibers and pull dirt back into them.
